Datto SIRIS Lite Technology
Inverse Chain TechnologyTM
Datto’s proprietary technology that always keeps the newest full backup at the front of the incremental chain. This technology takes data directly from the server, creating a VMDK every time a backup initiates, storing the data in that state on the local device. This allows backups to be independent of each other and not reliant on others. So a failed or missed backup will not require a full backup to be completed.
Datto’s proprietary technology for quickly and efficiently transferring files to and from the cloud employs several advanced technologies:
- Advanced LZMA2 compression algorithms to provide optimal data compression and reduce transfer data size
- Smart queuing to allow users to prioritize server backup order (More critical data can be prioritized)
- Recovery point pipelining so the next recovery point can upload while the current point is being received
- Agent sync parallelism allows multiple agents to sync offsite simultaneously (a full backup from one agent will not hold up other agents)
The combination of these technologies provide greater data integrity, reduce network traffic, and keep customer’s offsite backups up to date, particularly in low bandwidth environments and those with busy network traffic.
ShadowSnap is Datto’s advanced backup technology. An imaged-based, agent driven technology, it was created in conjunction with StorageCraft, a leader in backup technologies. Custom modified by Datto development, ShadowSnap is based on the premise of dual backup engines. The first backup is done in VSS, an application aware Microsoft based standard technology that commands all applications to halt data activities while a backup snapshot is created. This stable system ensures no data is lost. Should in a rare occurrence this backup not function, a second STC backup engine kicks in acting as a data “safety net”, vastly increasing the odds of a successful backup. Additionally, ShadowSnap supports dissimilar hardware BMR technology, streamlining the BMR process with easy driver injection technology.
Secure Data in the Cloud
Datto SIRIS Lite devices retain a local copy of the data on the device and then transmit mirrored images of the data to Datto’s secure Cloud. The data is encrypted using AES 256 + SSL key-based encryption and is stored on redundant drives. Datto’s Cloud data centers are SSAE 16 Certified, satisfying the qualifications set by AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board. Annual audits of the data centers ensure they maintain optimum standards of performance. The AICPA is widely recognized as the gold standard for assessment of operational controls and activities.
